Should Favre Retire?

The Green Bay Packers pulled out an overtime victory yesterday over the Detroit Lions. They improved their season record to 3-10, hardly a season you can hold your head up for. Favre threw for 170 yards and an interception in the win. No one is blaming Favre for the Packers' horrible season, but do you think it is time for Green bay to start rebuilding? How much longer can Brett play?

In yesterday's game Favre set the record for most consecutive 3,000+ yard seasons at 14. That's every year he has been a Green Bay Packer. Despite throwing for monster yards yet again, favre is having one of his worst season QB Rating-wise in his career. In 1993, he had a 72.2 rating and in 1999 he had a 74.7 rating. This season (although it is not over, we can hardly assume Favre will finish the season with a higher QB rating than he already has) has a 75.4 rating. Hardly something a future Hall of Famer can be proud of.

Can Favre end his career on such a bad note? Will the Packers force him to resign? What if they want to move on and rebuild with Aaron Rogers? As long as Favre is on the team he will be the starter. He will take a back seat to no one. In my opinion, they will never cut him, trade him, or force him to retire. As long as he wants to play he will be welcome. Now, just because Favre wants to play that doesn't mean it is in the best interest of the club to start him... but they will. Favre is an icon to Green Bay and a living legend to the NFL. He is the defintion of greatness.

I don't want to see Favre keep playing until he can hardly walk. I don't want to see him become nothing. Some players have the ability and bodies to allow them to continue their careers into their 40s. Jerry Rice, Roger Clemens, and Michael Jordan all played past their "prime" and continued to be effective. I believe Favre can be one of those players. He just needs the talent around him to be effective. He can't do it on his own. But if they Packers have so much money tied up in Favre, how can they bring in stud free agents?

Should Favre retire after this season? No, I don't think so. I think he has 1 more year in him.

Favre will be one of those guys that will retire when he feels like he is doing more harm then good to the team. Despite this seasons 3-10 record I think he is still worth something and probably will come back next year just to see. There have been too many missing pieces on that offense this year that are more of a reason for the 3-10 than Favre, so I could see him coming back one more time. Besides, would you rather go 3-10 with Favre or 3-10 with Aaron Rogers? 3-10 with Favre at least gives Rogers someone to look at and learn from while he waits it out.

Favre has struggled this season but so has the entire team. Injuries have haunted the team from early on.

Thay said you don't want to see Favre's legacy tarnished. Another bad season might do that.

Sorry, last paragraph should read;

That said you don't want to see Favre's legacy tarnished. Another bad season might do that.

If Favre wants to come back, and the GM does a much better job of putting a team around him (injuries played a part, but they did terribly with free agency), I don't see why this couldn't work out for at least one more year.

Yes, he has done it all and it is time for him to go and wait until he is announced in the Hall of Fame.

In a weird way, I think the only way Farve's reputation gets tarnished is if he goes to another team, like say, the Browns or some other crap organization. As long as he's with the Packers, everyone will remember the good ol' days, and Madden will still get a hard on everytime he talks about him. I mean, had Jordan stayed with the Bulls, his decline would not have been so obvious, I don't think. Anyway, I think Farve could play maybe 2 more years and still be considered one of the greatest.

If anyone reads this that is coming from Virginia or the Northeast PLEASE RESPOND.

I've been getting hundreds of hits from Virginia since yesterday. Want to know where they're coming from.

Did some big site link to me? How did you all find this page?

The truth is that favre hasnt lost anything, the team has. You could put the "Great Peyton Manning"(sarcasm, I think he sucks) on the packers and we will be discussing his retirement. Favre will undoubtedly play at least three more years. If the guy loves to play the game he wont just walk away for no good reason.

He has a reason...
A damn good one. Favre is getting old..this season was crap. If he played another year, everyone would talk about how horrible his last two professional years were. Im sure he doesnt want that..
