Priest Holmes

Rumors are spreading rapidly that Kansas City Chiefs running back Priest Holmes may announce his retirement as early as Thursday. This is a huge blow to the Chief’s organization and the sports community in general. You won’t find a classier player than Priest Holmes. It’s sad to see his last few seasons riddled with injuries and now he may have suffered a career ending injury just two weeks ago.

It’s all speculation at this point. No one knows anything for sure, except Priest himself. There are reports coming out saying he’s not going to miss any time, there are reports saying he’s done for the season, there are reports saying he will retire, and then there are reports saying his injury is not career ending. We probably won’t know the truth until Friday. But most likely Priest will miss the rest of this season. ESPN is reporting under their breaking news that Priest will likely miss the rest of the year.

It is said that he has seen several spinal, neck, and head doctors in the past week or two getting different opinions. As far as I know, Priest has a lump on his spine that can cause paralysis if further injured. Priest was knocked out of the Chiefs game vs. Oakland two weeks ago in a helmet to helmet hit.

There should be a press conference later today with more information. Like I said, most of what is going around today came from a non-credible source this morning. But rumors are flying and reports from sources like Fanball, Rotoworld, and ESPN make this story seem more real. Regardless of what happens to Priest, I wish him the best. Like I said, Priest is one of the classiest players in the NFL. He is a team first player, not a ME first player. Did anyone hear Priest complain when Vermeil announced he would split carries with Larry Johnson? Priest has the respect of every player and every fan.

Sorry I didn’t post the last few days. I have been very busy at work. We have some special events coming up this weekend.

College Football

There were a lot of college football upsets this weekend. Some of the more notable ones were FSU losing to NC State, VaTech losing to Miami, and Arizona destroying UCLA. Not to mention the Gators almost lost to a pitiful Vanderbilt team. And don’t tell me that Vandy has a good QB in Cutler. It doesn’t matter. They are still Vandy and they still took Florida into double overtime. How did Florida beat Georgia again?

It’s looking more and more like it will be USC vs Texas in the BCS Championship game. And that’s how it should be. The question to ask now is what happens if one of them loses and the rest of the top 5 win out? Does Alabama go to the championship with their undefeated season? The AP Poll has Miami ranked 3 and Alabama ranked 4. Would Miami go to the championship against undefeated USC even though Alabama is undefeated? These are tough questions that I hope don’t come up. Let’s see Texas vs USC. That’s the game everyone wants to see.

Listed below is this week's AP Top 25. I don't see how Virginia Tech gets dropped back all the way to 8. That's a little much don't you think?

Tracy McGrady

HOUSTON -- Houston Rockets star Tracy McGrady will miss three weeks because of back spasms, coach Jeff Van Gundy said.

McGrady hurt his back in practice Friday when he landed awkwardly after a baseline layup, trainer Keith Jones said. The injury is a recurrence of a back problem that plagued McGrady when he played in Orlando, Jones said.

Jones said McGrady went to the hospital on Friday night and tests showed the injury wasn't as serious as it's been in the past.

"All that structural stuff was good," Jones said. "This is more of a compression injury and basically a bruise around the spine -- not the spinal cord, but the spine itself."

Well I just got done posting about how well I feel the Rockets will play this year and guess what happens. McGrady goes down with a back injury and will be sidelined for 3 weeks. This is the type of injury that could linger too. The Rockets will not win many games without Tracy. He is their go to man, their main scorer, their leader. The Rockets lost to the Hornets Saturday and now sit alone in last place in their division. Sure it’s only been two games, but I think this is a sign of things to come. Without McGrady the Rockets are doomed.
